Serbia Nears Final EuroVolley Roster With 15 Players Remaining
Serbia enters the final stage of EuroVolley preparations with 15 players in contention for the roster, ahead of their August 21 opener against Austria.
Serbia's women's national volleyball team is entering the final stage of preparations for the European Championship, which begins August 21 in Brno, Czech Republic. The team will fly to the Czech Republic via Vienna on August 19.
Before the tournament, coach Zoran Terzić's squad will play two closed friendly matches against the Czech Republic in Belgrade. The final roster is still being finalized, with 15 players currently in contention after featuring in the recent matches against Russia: setters Maja Ognjenović and Slađana Mirković, opposites Tijana Bošković and Anja Zubić, liberos Bojana Gočanin and Aleksandra Jegdić, outside hitters Aleksandra Uzelac, Vanja Ivanović, Branka Tica, Nina Čajić, and Nađa Antonović, and middle blockers Hena Kurtagić, Minja Osmajić, Mina Popović, and Ljubica Milojević.
One player will have to be left off the final travel roster, with the decision likely depending on whether the coach opts for five outside hitters or four middle blockers. The setters, opposites, and liberos appear to have secured their spots barring any major changes.
Serbia won silver at the previous European Championship after a closely contested final against Turkey in Brussels and will again travel to this year's tournament with high ambitions. The team has been drawn into a group playing in Brno alongside hosts Czech Republic, Austria, Greece, Ukraine, and Bulgaria. Serbia opens the tournament on August 21 against Austria. The round of 16 and quarterfinals will also be held in Brno, while the semifinals, final, and bronze medal match will take place in Istanbul.
