Gianlorenzo Blengini Named Head Coach of Vero Volley Milano
Gianlorenzo Blengini is named head coach of Vero Volley Milano's women's team, his first major role coaching women's volleyball.
Gianlorenzo Blengini has been named the new head coach of Numia Vero Volley Milano's women's team, the club announced. President Alessandra Marzari and sporting director Claudio Bonati welcomed the 54-year-old Italian coach, who brings 11 career titles won across club and national team competitions.
Blengini, currently head coach of Bulgaria's men's national team, will begin working with the Milano squad after the European Championship. His staff will include Massimo Caponeri and Nicola Daldello as assistant coaches and Paolo Perrone as scout. This marks his first major coaching role with a women's team.
Born in Turin on December 29, 1971, Blengini began his coaching career more than 25 years ago, developing under Mauro Berruto and Julio Velasco, working alongside them at Torino, Piacenza, Modena, and Montichiari. He took his first head coaching role in 2009 at Santa Croce in Tuscany, winning the A2 Italian Cup. He joined the Italian men's senior national team staff under Berruto in 2014, later becoming head coach himself, leading Italy to Olympic silver at Rio 2016. He also coached Lube Civitanova starting in 2015, winning three Scudetti and one Italian Cup with the club.
Since taking over Bulgaria's national team in 2024, Blengini has won three silver medals and one bronze across the Olympics, World Championship, European Championship, and World Cup. In 2025, he was named Bulgaria's Coach of the Year across all sports.
With the Milano appointment, Blengini will now balance leading Bulgaria's men's team, which he has built toward Los Angeles 2028, with a new challenge of building a title-winning project with Milano's women's team — a club that has won three Scudetti with its men's program in Civitanova.
