Grbić Praises Squad After Hard-Fought Five-Set VNL Final Win

Poland's head coach Nikola Grbić said after Sunday's five-set VNL final win over the United States that the team had prepared for exactly the kind of difficult match they faced.

Speaking after the match, Grbić said he had told his players in the locker room before the game to expect the Americans to play much better and differently than in their earlier meeting in Chicago. He said the team needed to be ready for a point-by-point battle and to stay patient, trusting that their quality would ultimately make the difference, adding that this is exactly what happened.

Grbić also addressed the squad rotations made during the match, explaining that Poland is still waiting for Kevin to reach his previous level. He said Kevin can already serve and block but still has issues in attack, which is why he was hesitant to use him in a moment when the team was struggling with attacks from the right side. Grbić noted that Wilfredo Leon was ready and performed excellently in attack, reception, and blocking, helping the team significantly. He added that having players of such quality makes it easier for him to make decisions and prepare the team for any scenario.

Following the title, Poland has extended its lead at the top of the FIVB World Ranking to more than 50 points ahead of second-placed Italy.
