Italy Names 14 for EuroVolley, Adigwe Replaces Injured Omoruyi

Italy's women's national volleyball team, the reigning Olympic and World champions, has finalized its 14-player roster for the 2026 European Championship, set to run from August 21 to September 6 across Turkey, the Czech Republic, Azerbaijan, and Sweden. Coach Julio Velasco's squad has been placed in Pool D, hosted in Gothenburg.

The team departs for Sweden Tuesday morning and will hold its first training session that afternoon at the Scandinavium, the venue hosting all of the pool's matches. Italy opens the tournament on Friday, August 21, at 16:00 against Croatia.

Italy arrives at the tournament after winning bronze at the 2026 Volleyball Nations League and completing a training camp in Cavalese, followed by the Agata Mróz-Olszewska Memorial in Poland, which the team won. Loveth Omoruyi, sidelined by the knee injury she suffered during the Poland tournament, is not included in the final roster; Merit Adigwe has been called up in her place.

The 14 players named for the European Championship are: setters Carlotta Cambi and Alessia Orro; outside hitters Stella Nervini, Myriam Sylla, Gaia Giovannini, and Ekaterina Antropova; middle blockers Denise Meli, captain Anna Danesi, Linda Nwakalor, and Sarah Fahr; opposites Merit Adigwe and Paola Egonu; and liberos Ilaria Spirito and Eleonora Fersino.
