Italy Sweep Netherlands to Secure VNL Semifinal Spot
Italy defeated the Netherlands in straight sets to reach the 2026 VNL semifinals, extending its title defense with another commanding performance led by Ekaterina Antropova.

Italy moved one step closer to a third consecutive Volleyball Nations League title after defeating the Netherlands 3-0 in the 2026 VNL quarterfinals. The defending champions claimed a 25-21, 25-16, 25-16 victory to advance to the last four.
The opening set was the most competitive of the match, but Italy took control after edging ahead. Julio Velasco’s team dominated the second and third sets, completing the win in 70 minutes with another disciplined performance.
Ekaterina Antropova led all scorers with 16 points, including three aces and three blocks. Myriam Sylla added 11 points, while Sarah Fahr finished with 10. Italy also held the advantage in every key statistical category, recording 42 attack points, 10 blocks and seven aces.
Following the match, head coach Julio Velasco highlighted his team's improvement in defense and serving after a difficult start. Antropova said the first knockout match helped Italy find its rhythm, while libero Eleonora Fersino praised the squad's focus and consistency throughout the contest.
For the Netherlands, Elles Dambrink was the only player to score in double figures, finishing with 13 points as the Dutch ended their VNL campaign in the quarterfinals.
