Poland Names EuroVolley Squad, Orzoł Left Out

Poland's women's national volleyball team confirmed its 14-player roster for the European Championship on Wednesday, with head coach Stefano Lavarini's selections holding no major surprises. The most notable omission is outside hitter Julia Orzoł, the last player to join the squad during the Nations League, who will now focus on preparing for the club season.

Poland's setter and opposite pairings remain as expected, with Katarzyna Wenerska and Alicja Grabka at setter, and Magdalena Stysiak and Julia Szczurowska as opposites. The libero position also stays unchanged, with captain Aleksandra Szczygłowska supported by Justyna Łysiak. In the competition for outside hitter spots, Orzoł lost out to Julita Piasecka, Monika Lampkowska, Martyna Czyrniańska, and Paulina Damaske. At middle blocker, experienced players Magdalena Jurczyk and Anna Obiała were joined by newer national team members Sonia Stefanik and Maja Koput, considered one of this season's breakout players for the national team.

Poland opens the tournament against Hungary, followed by matches against Latvia and Slovenia. Their fourth match against Germany is expected to be more challenging, and the group stage concludes against Turkey, the defending champions from three years ago. The top four teams from each group advance to the next round, and if Poland finishes second in their group, they could face an opponent from Group C's lower-ranked teams in the next stage, opening a path toward the tournament's top four.
