Serbia Fight Back to Defeat Ukraine in Belgrade
Serbia recovered from losing the opening set to beat Ukraine 3–1, completing a major fourth-set comeback at Belgrade Arena.
Serbia claimed their fifth win of the 2026 Volleyball Nations League after beating Ukraine 3–1 in Belgrade.
Ukraine took the opening set, but Serbia responded to complete a 22–25, 25–17, 25–21, 25–23 victory after 114 minutes. More than 2,500 spectators watched the match at Belgrade Arena.
The hosts recovered from an early deficit in the second set, with brothers Nemanja and Veljko Mašulović helping Serbia change the momentum. Strong defence and improved serving allowed Gheorghe Crețu’s team to level the match.
Serbia carried that energy into the third set and built a 9–3 lead. Ukraine fought back with strong serving, but the hosts stayed composed and moved ahead 2–1.
The biggest comeback came in the fourth set. Ukraine led 19–15 and appeared close to forcing a tie-break, but Serbia recovered. Aleksandar Nedeljković completed the victory with an ace as the hosts won the final three points.
It was Serbia’s fifth consecutive victory over Ukraine. Their next VNL match will be against Germany in Belgrade on Saturday.
