Zé Roberto Named Head Coach of LOVB Los Angeles

League One Volleyball (LOVB) announced that Brazilian coach José Roberto "Zé Roberto" Guimarães has been named head coach of LOVB Los Angeles, ahead of the club's first season.

Zé Roberto, inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2018, is the only coach in volleyball history to win Olympic gold with both a men's and a women's national team. Including his playing career, he will have taken part in 10 Olympic Games by LA 2028, with five Olympic medals to his name over roughly 50 years in the sport.

His Olympic journey began as a player, competing for Brazil at the 1976 Montreal Games. As a coach, he led Brazil's men's team to Olympic gold in 1992, then took over the women's team and won back-to-back golds at Beijing 2008 and London 2012, followed by silver at Tokyo 2020 and bronze at Paris 2024. At club level, he won the CEV Champions League with Turkish club Fenerbahçe Üniversite in 2012.

LOVB President Sandra Idehen called him the most successful coach in the sport's history. LOVB LA owner Alexis Ohanian and club president Ana Mendy also praised the hire as a statement of the club's ambitions. Zé Roberto will continue in his role with Brazil's women's national team, which he has held since 2003, alongside his new position in Los Angeles.
